GHz Mode-Locked Laser
TechnologyBreakdown
Iris Light’s GHz mode-locked laser brings ultrafast, precision light generation to the chip scale. Using our NanoBLACK™ photonic ink platform, we integrate high-Q optical resonators and saturable absorber media directly onto silicon photonic chips enabling compact, efficient frequency combs that produce evenly spaced optical “teeth” across the spectrum.
These combs act as ultra-stable references for generating low-noise microwave and radio-frequency signals, forming the backbone for advanced systems such as portable atomic clocks, quantum sensors, 6G communications, and defense-grade timing networks. With repetition rates in the GHz range, the Iris Light mode-locked laser delivers exceptional signal quality in a form factor suited for satellites, CubeSats, and other constrained platforms.
Built using CMOS-compatible manufacturing, this technology achieves the scalability and reliability needed for commercial and defense deployment — bridging the gap between laboratory photonics and real-world, high-volume production.
