Iris Light Wins U.S. Department of Energy STTR Phase II Award

The Phase II award supports continued development of printed, on-chip opto-electronic components for energy-efficient data centers

Iris Light was selected for a Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award from the U.S. Department of Energy, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory. The project builds on prior work to advance Iris Light’s novel approach to manufacturing printed opto-electronic active components directly on silicon chips.

Through this Phase II effort, Iris Light and Argonne are continuing to develop a new manufacturing pathway for on-chip lasers, with a focus on scalability and integration. The targeted impact is enabling more energy-efficient photonic components for data centers and other high-performance computing systems, where optical integration plays a critical role in reducing power consumption.
