Iris Light Wins NSF STTR Phase I Award - Nov 2021

The award supports early development of light-emitting photonic inks for silicon photonics.

Iris Light Technologies was awarded a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), in collaboration with Boise State University. The project focused on the early development of light-emitting photonic inks designed for integration with silicon photonics.

Through this Phase I effort, the team explored the technical feasibility of using opto-electronic nanomaterials to create active light-emitting components compatible with semiconductor manufacturing. The work established an initial foundation for Iris Light’s materials-first approach to enabling on-chip light sources for integrated photonic systems.

The NSF STTR program supports high-risk, early-stage research with strong commercial potential. This award marked an important early milestone in Iris Light’s journey toward scalable, nanomaterial-enabled photonic manufacturing.
